Was wondering if anyone could give me a link or info on anyone who has tried to put a crew cab on a reg cab long box frame. and how to do it. i would love to do this and swap in a diesel in it. just wondering if it would be a good idea or not. and any extra tips tricks or reality checks are appreciated.

I've got a 2WD 70 bumpside lined up to buy in mid-April and plan to make my own crewcab cuz I can't find a crewcab locally for a decent price. For starters, I Photoshopped it and it fits. I'll post what I got later to give you an idea.. Keep in mind it's a bumpside it should provide some basis to go from.
Oh... I plan to shorten the bed so the result will be a "70 SuperCrew Conversion".
I plan to shorten the bed so that it is just a shorty. I just need a measurement from someone I guess. Exactly how much longer is a crew cab than a regular cab? That way I know how much bed I will end up with. And how do you photoshop something?
I did this same thing but used a supercab cab and then sectioned the front of the bed (took out 28" I think from a long bed). One thing I ran into is that the regular cab long bed frame raised up near the bed area and that required a 2" body lift for room to clear the cab and to make the rear cab mounts. Other than that it was pretty easy.
IIRC, the CC 4x4 (which only came with a short bed (6.5')) was right at 150.3" and the 2wd CC, with long bed was right at 168.4". The reg cab long bed is 133"

Photoshop is a graphics program made by Adobe Systems. It allows you to modify pictures extensively and seamlessly.
Back to the thread... concur with the previous post about the frame rising up but a body lift would be okay on a 4x4 but my version will be 2WD. Gonna have to section the floor for frame clearance but it should occur under the back seats.
The project needs to have the crew cab at its final dimension before even attempting to shorten the bed. The rear door will be just forward of the rear wheels based on my graphic.... wait and you'll see.

I think I added 17" to my frame to make my reg. cab long bed into a crew cab shortbed. I think the shortbeds are 6.5' so your shortened bed will be a shade over 5' i think.

Reason: left out info
If ya can't find a decent crewcab and you've got the time and the fab skills, it is possible to convert a LB to a CrewCab. 1976 and newer CrewCab dents seem to be more popular and available ...but in California, 1975 and older vehicles are exempt from emissions... a BIG plus.
Scanned the graphic from LMC's catalog and modified the image in Adobe Photoshop:
