So went under the truck today and saw this rubber ring hanging. it is fully intact. In the pictures the tire is on the left. It is the front axle. anyone have any ideas what this rubber loop is? The other side has one too but i can't figure out how to put it back on. Could this be a cv joint problem? How would I know?
There are no CV joints on the Fords, except on the front driveshaft, and it's not really a CV joint, it's a double u-joint.
What you're talking about, I think, is the dust seal where the axle goes into the axle tube. Not sure how to fix it without taking everything apart, some people can stuff it back in there and it stays for a little while.
Not a big deal to leave it hanging, or cut it off, methinks.
