that would be a better question than the boot or no boot question lol

The fronts on our trucks cannot, because we have the spear mounts. But I think they can on the earlier trucks. Want to argue?

You are correct in that we show this image on our website to show the new enlarged rod diameter of the XL series of shocks that we make.

I must also say My RS9000XL Adjustable Shocks are great and much better than the bilsteins do to the adjustable feature

It is not suggested as the oil does not flow correctly within the body and will damage the shock eventually.

On an '05+ truck you can't mount the front shocks upside down because there is a stud at one end. '04- trucks have an eye at each end though.

So should they be boot up or down? I've always thought boot down was best so crap didn't build up on the seal.

So.... what if I installed the fronts on the rear and the rears on the front then only put one side upside down?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Just thought I'd throw another variation into the mix.

BTW - It's my understanding "boot up". At least thats how I installed them.

I installed the 9000xl's in the front of my SD this past weekend.

As it turns out, with my "T" springs, and some heavy abuse, I have about 3-4" of travel before I hit the bump stops.

So, the boot was VERY compressed at that height, so much so that it would have bound up before it hit the bump stops.

I left the boots off

VERY nice ride, they do seem to be better than the regular 9000x's. I currently have them on "5" and they are somewhat stiff, not too stiff, and over some really bad ugly lumpy bumpy asphalt on a tight on-ramp, I can go 40+mph and it doesn't get all squirrely...

Also, glad to see they are gas-charged now.

No, but at the point where the truck sits, the boot just looks silly. And if the suspension compresses even a little bit, the boot will definitely bind up.

The shock itself has about an inch or more of room after the truck is fully on the bump stop and the bump-stop itself is completely compressed.
