Lookie here..Rancho Suspension: Shocks » RS9000XL™ look real hard...do you see a boot??? I see a bootless shaft.
LOL
On a side note PM's have been responded to as well.

On an '05+ truck you can't mount the front shocks upside down because there is a stud at one end. '04- trucks have an eye at each end though.

I installed the 9000xl's in the front of my SD this past weekend.
As it turns out, with my "T" springs, and some heavy abuse, I have about 3-4" of travel before I hit the bump stops.
So, the boot was VERY compressed at that height, so much so that it would have bound up before it hit the bump stops.
I left the boots off
VERY nice ride, they do seem to be better than the regular 9000x's. I currently have them on "5" and they are somewhat stiff, not too stiff, and over some really bad ugly lumpy bumpy asphalt on a tight on-ramp, I can go 40+mph and it doesn't get all squirrely...
Also, glad to see they are gas-charged now.

No, but at the point where the truck sits, the boot just looks silly. And if the suspension compresses even a little bit, the boot will definitely bind up.
The shock itself has about an inch or more of room after the truck is fully on the bump stop and the bump-stop itself is completely compressed.
