Ok, been trying to figure out my tranny/trans-case combo is. I think I have the T18 because it looks like the top is cast, not aluminum. Anyway, as others have said, I can't find a vin decoder for my year.
This is the information:
VIN: 1FTDF14E78PB04328
WB:117
TYPE/GVW:F140
BODY:AB4
TRANS:F
AXLE:14
DSO:VY
If anyone can translate any of this stuff, please let me know. I know the axle is the 3.00 open 9". Thanks for all the help.

Your tranny code says it's a Borg-Warner T-18 4 spd.
Dennis (assist admin here) has a place to help decode the rest. Works for most late 70's - very early 80's trucks.

Edit-The transfer case isn't going to be listed on either the VIN or the door jamb sticker. You'll need to crawl underneath and do some investigating. NP's have a stamp on them and mine had a round label plate with the model number stamped on it: NP 208 F.

F - pickup
1 - 1/2-ton chassis
4 - probably 4WD (any even number here indicates 4WD)
E - 302ci HO
7 - check digit (meaningless)
8 - actually "B" - 1981
P - St. Paul, MN
B04328 - serial number
WB:117 - wheelbase in inches
