what all terrain tires would you recommend? it says on the site for my leveling kit i can fit a 33x12.5 also any recommendations on some nice cheap simple crome rims?
Fitting 33/12.5 should be no problem as far as rim size you cant go any smaller than the stock ones. I have Eagle alloys on mine seems to be a good wheel and not to expensive.
The BFG A/T is very good All Terrain tire. They are not the cheapest but they are good tires. As for the wheels you don't want to go any smaller than 16". If it were me I would go with some 16"x8" wheels. Satay away from American Racing chrome plated Baja wheels. I have a set on my other truck and the chrome peeled off them and the finish is crap. Considering how much these trucks weigh and what they expected to do I would not cheap out on wheels, get a wheel that has a hefty weight rating, obviously a forged wheel is best. Stock wheels are strong and can be gotten cheap but they are on the narrow side for the tires you want to run. (16"x7")
i was told its cheaper to buy a tire as a 33" compaired to a 285/?/? and i found the bfg all terrain you spoke of in a 33 only question i have is do they make it on a 16-17 rim bc all im finding for what you recommended is in a 15....also how do i know what gear i should have to support a 285 or 33 tire?
If you want a 33" diameter tire with a 12.5" section width you will need a LT305/70R16. The tire marked as 33x12.5R15 is a C rated tire which is NOT the proper tire to handle the weight of the SD. The LT305/70R16E BFG A/T has a diameter of 33" and a section width of 12.2" so it is equivelent in dimensions to the 33x12.5R15 however the 305 is an E rated tire thus it has 10 plys and is made to handle the weight of a SD which a C rated tire is not.
The LT28575R16 tire is 33" in diameter but has a section width of 11.5" instead of 12.5". An LT315/75R16 tire is also offered however that tire is around 35" in diameter with a 12.5" section width. I have a set of 285/75R16 tires on my stock height 04' SD with stock wheels and they fit very well.
