2003 Windstar LX
First, the RPM tac jumped all the way over to the right past the mph tac and is currently stuck by the shifter cable when in park. I would notice the rpm tac jumping all over the place every once in a while but it would just settle back down after a few seconds. But not is has gone full blown stuck.
Second, the inside light above the sliding back doors flicker for no apparent reason during the day.
Third, none of the power windows work. I hear a noise coming from the driver side motor but nothing from the passenger side or rear windows.
Forth, my ABS and E-Brake light comes on after the engine warms up for about a min or two.
Fifth, often when i'm at a red light and it's in drive and holding the brakes the engine starts to make a weird noise and starts to chug like its going to stall out. I've never let is stall out by putting it in park and revving the rpm's a little to keep it going. What could this be?
Any information in regards to fixing any of these problems would be appreciated.
Things I have tried
Replaced pcv valve and hose
oil change
new rotors and pads
new power window relay
air filter
seafoam
It seems like you have a problem with the ignition system, which may be showing up on the tachometer. That, and a bunch of electrical problems. They are hard to find, but can cause most of the problems you're seeing.
The window problems are probably caused by a broken wire in the bundle going between the driver's door and the car frame. You will have to pull the kick panel to check those wires for continuity.
The sliding door light can be caused by problems in the door alignment, or door switch adjustment. I've never seen a Windstar up close, but doe sit use a bunch of contacts on the frame that matches up with similar contacts on the door? One their functions is actuation of the door ajar warning.
Your brake light may be caused by low brake fluid, or rust in the shuttle valve shorting out the warning switch. Check the fluid level, and pull out the shuttle valve switch to see if it's covered in corrosion.
