My wife and kids were in a wreck on friday night last week. Everyone is okay and thank god for that. The expy has some exterior damage as well. The lady driving the other car basically hit my expy in the rear wheel and in the rear quarter panel. My wife had the All wheel drive on at the time. The expy seems to drive fine in 2 wheel but when we put it in 4-wheel or AWD it makes a good clunk in the front end coming from pumpkin on axle. Now here is the dumb question you all have been waiting for. It has never made this noise before the accident. What may have happen to cause this clunk to occur or what should I look for in trying to correct the problem? Or would this not be related at all to the accident? Thanks in advance if you respond and any info would be greatly appreciated.
It might sound like the noise is coming from the front differential, but my educated guess is the noise is really in the transfer case. I suspect the noise is traveling through the front driveshaft and is giving the appearance of being up in the front. The transfer case could've been damage due to the rear wheel impact.
Sure it could. The shock of the impact would've traveled right up the rear driveshaft and into the TC. I wouldn't hesitate to report it to the insurance company and have it fixed as part of the accident claim.
Thanks for getting back with me! Your reply confirmed my thinking but I figured someone else with more knowledge than me would be able to answer it my own thoughts
