First let me give you a background on the truck. I recently redid my frame on my truck and it had been sitting for about 8 months. After I got it running again it had a really rough idle almost like it wasn't running on all the cylinders. No big deal did a complete tune up with new coil, wires, spark plugs, rotors, and cap. New gas and filter. It runs much better now. it idles well.

Now let's address the problem. I have been driving it lately and it seems to miss and sputter on acceleration. It misses pops and what have you. I recently tried ton adjust the distributor to adjust the timing, but it the vacuum advance was hitting the water jacket. I removed the distributor found TDC started the truck adjusted it to 10 degrees BTDC (w/ vacuum advanced removed and plugged).

When I was reading how to time this truck I didn't read the fine print... My truck is equipped with the EEC III. I never disconnected the SPOUT connected. From reading other post I understand it is located by the driver side door spring. I can't find it on mine. My wiring has been modified by the previous owner. If someone could please send a pic of what it looks like and or which wires they are because I think it might have been soldered together. I appreciate everyones input. If it wasn't for this sight my truck wouldn't even run!

If you have a vacuum advance on the distributor, then someone has converted your truck to points or a duraspark II system, so you have no computer and no spout to disconnect. Hopefully they swapped the carb out also.

Ok that makes sense there was no step for disconnecting the Vacuum Advance. So now I am at a loss and need some pointers. I am going to check for vacuum leaks tonight. Would this be a possible cause? I always thought that vacuum leaks would raise the RPMS. I also forgot to add it has a 750CFM carb on it. Could it be it needs rejetted? It ran last summer fine... I am at a loss. Thanks for the responses.

does it sputter at any level of acceleration (going from 40 to 50 for instance) or is it only on initial acceleration ( from a stop or coming out of a turn)? when mine was doing the second scenario, it was starving for fuel then getting a rush and lunging forward. turns out the float levels were low in the front bowl and high in the rear bowl. after adjusting those, the problem went away.

To tell you the truth I haven't had it up to higher than thirty five yet. The reason being it's got a six inch lift springs in the rear. I am in the process of lifting it and haven't had time to lift the front yet. I notice it stalls when you first step on it then it will kind of miss but still accelerates. This is anytime I accelerate it whether it be pulling out slowly or mashing on it. Also just FYI I installed a new fuel pump as well. I will take a look at the sight glass on the carb as well tonight to ensure fuel is at the right level. Thanks!

If you have the truck that far out of wack level wise, the carb may not like it and keep spilling fuel into the engine. You might want to check your float levels. If it's a holley, there are site plugs on the pass side of the carb to check the fuel level.
