Ok Folks this has had me scratching my head for a couple days so maybe somebody on here has an idea. I have a 02 F-250 with the 5.4l and auto tranny. Here's the problem:my backup lights don't shut off unless my heater is off-in any gear or park, and the truck won't shift out of park when the heater is off-but will when its on. Also the cruise control quit working altogether.Oh and the fan for the heat/ac won't work with the heater switch off-unless the truck is in reverse. Any suggestions are appreciated-thanks.
Looking through the wiring diagrams, I don't see very much in common between the circuits. You'd need to start checking voltages at various points to start narrowing things down.
As a quick check, pull the connector off of the trans range sensor and see if there is any corrosion in there. That could backfeed voltage from the backup lamp circuit to other circuits that run through it and is a fairly common problem.
It started on Saturday night-came out of work and noticed the backup lights on-then a nice Sheriff Deputy stopped me and told me about it too. Have done nothing to the truck-all stock. I assume the trans range sensor is on the transmission-will check there next. I already swapped the switch on the break peddle(w/one from my F-350) and it wasn't it. I was also thinking maybe a ground someplace came undone/corroded.
Well after much head scratching and wire probing I found out that my SCDS failed and the brake fluid that leaked out followed the wires back to the fuse panel. I have an appointment with the dealership to see if it will be covered under the recall of the SCDS, which has already been replaced. Anybody heard of this happening? The service manager said they have done the recall work to about 200 trucks and had never seen this happen. Also does anybody know where I can read a copy of the recall letter? Thanks in advance.
