Thanks for all the support guys. I am pretty good in auto tech in school, so ill change the transmission fluid there. I could tell it already had bars leak in the coolant, but i put a new bottle in on sunday. i was told that there is a paste that turns into aluminum when it hardens and that would be a pretty good bet. I just need a get me by patch job untill i can get a new motor, which might be awhile.
amd blueovalbud, im in northeast pennsylvania. close enough
Very nice find! Wash 'er up and see if that helps. Otherwise, give her the spray paint treatment and run it hard LOL
84 F350 4x4 huh? Should have a Dana 50 TTB under the front. Most guys don't like the TTB, I love 'em. They'll say how they will break and shatter as soon as you put the thing in gear and that a Dana 60 swap is the solution.
Here ya go, this truck has a Dana 50 front end...and it gets abused more than the average guy will do. Video is courtesy of IDIDieselJohn, a member here on FTE.
Northeastern PA huh? That might just work after all! I have family in Bloomsburg, PA and sometime here withint he next month we're heading down for a weekend to visit.
Then July 4th weekend, we head back down for the family reunion. I'm running my truck down that trip because I'm heading over to the IDI Rally in Pine Grove!! I'm VERY excited for that!!
It's usually a 4 hour trip down to Bloomsburg for us. You don't have to share your hometown here on the web, but how far are you from Bloomsburg? I just turned 21 2 weeks ago, I have no problem wrenching with another IDI owner.
As for the block cracks...
My Dad had a Jeep with an Inline 6 with a crack. He was young and didn't have enough money for a replacement engine, so his buddy welded it. Help up pretty well.
I've also ran Bar's Leak in my 352 FE in my '65 F350 because that block was cracked also. I had great results.
I also tried using Quiksteel putty on my crack. It didn't hold up. I'd try JB Weld first, and then do the Bars Leak to really seal it up.
When you do get a replacement engine, be sure to change out the heater core first as it will have plenty of "gook" in there and you'd rather not have that re-circulate into the next engine.
Given the time of year and my location, I would just bypass the heater core and save it for later. He will probably want a new radiator, though. That stop leak stuff gets on everything.
Well i guess its kinda ironic that i work at a car wash, but yet my truck is always dirty. i'm doing a tranny fluid change tomorrow with free atf and only 5$ for a napa filter in autotech.
And blueovalbud i live in tunkhannock, a town with 3 traffic lights, one just for walmart. its about half an hour north of wilksbarre. Not sure if your too keen about hanging out with a 16 year old kid, nor do i have any major projects at the moment.

Very cool! It's not about age, it's about maturity. Most kids my age (21) are still playing friggin video games and wearing some preppy t-shirts witht heir hats on sideways. Or, the middle-ground maturity ones are happy about turning 21, they stay out all night at the bars and think it's cool to just get trashed. Then my group of buddies work, we have our own businesses, and are mature. I don't drink, nor do I care to. These other kids...Duh, grow up! Anyone who is able to join a forum and learn stuff out on their own and is willing to work, that is someone I'd hang out with. 16, 21? Age is no matter.
Matter of fact, you're just outside of Scranton, we usually run down I 84 west, then drop down I 81, to I 80 anyways. Perfect.
I can take a swing in when I head down there (don't know when yet) and give ya some pointers.
That works for me. depending what day it is i might be at work, which i'd rather be doing ove everything, except for offroading . all my friends are hanging out smashin mailboxes and other illegal stuff, then i came to the relization that i'd rather accomplish something in life. im hoping to become a diesel tech., though i doubt ill be able to afford the schooling. oh well
As for diesel tech school...you've got yourself an excellent truck to learn about diesels on. The newer stuff is a bit more complicated, mostly in wires and sensors. But if you get the hang of the IDI, the other stuff will be easier to understand. Follow thru with your goals, and you'll be in good shape!
