Ok. It's been a long time since I've messed with fan belts but what's the deal. I am only running an alternator and power steering belt ( a/c and air pump not working). I have made them tight and loose but always get a heck of a squeal on startup. Any tips?
I recently bought this truck for $600 as project. Been abused but not in too bad of shape. Odometer says 68k but I bet it's at least 168k. Battery is a cheap but new, alternator looks old but has a reman sticker. Pulleys are a little rusty but I hit them with a scotch pad. It only does it when first started when the idle speed is high cause the choke engages. If I bump the throttle to disengage the choke I can rev it all day with no noise.
I spun the alt pulley with the belt off to see if the bearings felt bad. I guess under load they could be binding. What else on the alt could cause the belt to slip. Beside the pulley slipping on the shaft as previously stated
What is the stk amp rating for this alternator. 82 f150, a/c, custom trim level? Has double pulley for air pump
