By your own admission it has stuff you don't need. Sounds like you already decided it's not worth it. For me it was. The LCD screen is chocked full of information and so much more than just an odometer. I have the 4x4 and it tells me what angle I am at which is darn good info. Miles to empty is a very handy feature. Lots of things it shows are not available on any other vehicle.
Look at it this way...before you had a personal computer you probably thought "I don't need one of those...what would I ever use it for" and now you would probably agree they are indispensable. Same way with the new truck gadgets. When you realize and utilize them into your daily life, you will wonder how you ever got along without them.
I have 'em, love just about every bit of it. My only complaint on the 6.2 gauges screen is you get one gauge, the tranny temp. There's nothing else there. Sync is nice to stream media on (pandora, mp3's, etc) from your phone. The truck already has Sirius so I don't need to stream it off my phone, but I could if I wanted! Having the 2 USB ports is nice as well, I can charge various items on the hidden one (run a cable to center console) and plug in a USB flash drive into the other.
It's only pennies a day over the terms of your financing.. ha ha.

The only SYNC thing I really use is the hands free phone , which I really like. The radio dial will tell you who's calling if you load the phones contact list to the sync system. The quality of the handsfree mic is excellent. You can speak controls to the phone for dialing out. Sync does alot more which I havnt bothered with.
As far as tthe LCD screen , IMO its worth it for all the info it gives. Plus in resale it willl help. Im glad I've got both.
The sync is awesome. I thought it would be like On Star from GM, but it's 1000 time better. You can tell it to do things for you. If you haven't used the services section yet, try it. The weather and traffic is great, all you have to do is ask for it, no more waiting for the radio to tell you. The hands free works great too, my wife was with me and we were both talking the the other person did not even know we were in the truck until we told them. Sound quality is very good, and it seems to listen pretty well too. Have not tried with the windows open yet, still cold here in MI.
For the mere pennies per month it is going to cost you, add it on. Lots of useful information on the LCD, and the Sync... couldn't live without it now.
One feature I could do without, though, is the constant reminder on the LCD of my average MPGs.
