Just trying to determine for ;you if it's flooding or starving for fuel. When you choke it that causes less air and more gas into intake.

Moving the accelerator pump rod to the outer hole may fix that off idle bog. There isn't much you can do to change the cfm except get a different carb. The throttle plates can not be resized.
I run the exact same carb on the 351W in my 63 F100 so it's not too big that it can't be tuned right.
What ignition system do you run. Points or electronic?

I'm guessing points as it's nothing aftermarket. I still haven't had a chance to really get on it as every wide open road i took it on today had a bunch of people in front of me.

So are you saying have the carb setup different jet wise or whatever would be alright to have done and make a difference?

I honestly don't know. I would like to eventually have a buddy that works at napa or another one that works at a dyno shop check the fuel pressure for me but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Yes. I originally had mine on a 460, but kept it when I sold my 77. I had bought a calibration kit with jets, metering rods and springs. I had richened it way up for the 460, then leaned it out with larger metering rods and smaller jets for the 351. These are quite versatile carbs.
Oh yeah, I would recommend a heat shield like the Mr. Gasket 3710.

Would I be better off payin about $47 for the kit and do everything to the carb on my own or take it somewhere and have them do it? With guidance on which jets to change and what not I'm sure I could do the work myself.

If you are not comfortable doing it, by all means have a trusted shop do it. It is basically just trial and error. There is no magic number. All engines react different.

Have you pulled a spark plug just to see how they look? White like too lean or black from too much fuel.

Yea I guess i'd rather have a shop do it. They should have everything right so I won't need to buy anything to give them to use?

I changed out all of the spark plugs the day after the pin sheared and it wasn't running. But since it has been running I haven't checked them again. I'll look tomorrow when I go to work on it a bit and take a picture too.

Well now it's not even running right. I went to take it out for a spin today and it wouldn't idle right (too low although i had it set where it should be but it would idle up to there) so i raised it to idle where i wanted it again, and when i'm driving it, when i get close to 2000rpm it seams to misfire or something, or hesitate i think. Like it just sputters kinda. When i'd let off the gas to run or stop, the idle would raise about 100rpm or so for no reason. The filter towards the carb is always completely full. I don't know if too little or too much psi is causing this.

gettin kinda annoying i can't drive this without a problem

It looks kinds off color, but that could be additives. usually it is more of a brown color. Yours looks reddish in the picture.

It's hard to tell in the pic i took it with my phone. It is brown though. I'll change the filter tomorrow probably. If this isn't the problem then I have no idea what it is then.

It almost sounds like the ignition breaking down. Points not right or maybe a weak coil. It's really hard to tell from behind this screen
