CCV filter

I know there is a ccv section in tech but how about using one of these as a low buck alternative to high price filters?
Hypro 1 In. Poly Strainer with 80 Mesh Stainless Steel Screen - 2114114 | Tractor Supply Company

The oil mist should condense on the cool screen and drain to the bottom. Worth a shot. If it doesn't work well, the hoses will already be run and a different filter could be swapped on. I think I would drill the bottom and install a barbed o-ring fitting so I could mount a larger capacity "catch can" for the filter to drain to.

Any thoughts?<!-- / message -->

You can find a can/ccv filter cheaper on eBay. Less even with shipping that are made for truck and cars. FYI

I know the ones you are talking about. They are shiny and come in different colors. I do not think they have any sort of collection screen, the inlet & outlet is undersized and side by side. Side by side is nice for routing hoses however I don't think will do much for seperating oil mist from the air.

I was actually going to build one similar to this one 42 Draft Designs
, as I work with aluminum, stainless, & mild steel everyday. I was searching local hardware stores for thin perforated alum sheet for filter baffles when I came across the tractor supply sprayer filter I linked in my first post.

Still kicking all this around. I will eventually throw a Mann+Hummel Provent 200 (check it out, look familiar?) on it but have limited wrenching $ right now and want to do some other mods on top of needed maintenance.

Thanks for the reply as I was looking for other peoples input.

I think it would be "OK" IF the inlet/outlet size is AT LEAST as big as the current CCV hose. You do NOT want to make any kind of restriction in your CCV line. It can and will cause you some stupid running problems.

npccpartsman,
Understood. I will be restricted by the ID of the hose barb fitting req'd for a 1" ID hose.
I may need to go a size bigger with the filter, giving me larger threaded ports.
I could then go with a 1" hydraulic hose ends in male pipe thread to keep any restriction down.
