I just just changed the TPS to try and fix shifting problems. I also replaced the distributor o-ring to fix a leak. Now my 93 5.8 won't start. Replaced the coil and checked for spark. Made sure distributor was in properly. Is it possible that TPS installed wrong although I don't see how. Could it be on backwards? I put it on the same way the old one was on. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Yes it is possible that the TPS is preventing it from starting. But I'm more interested in the replacement of the distributor o-ring. Not sure on this, but did you have to remove the distributor to replace it? If so you may have reinstalled the distributor improperly and now the timing is off.
If you're sure that's not the case, then remove the new TPS. Immediately reinstall it, however, install it at a 90 degree angle to the mounting surface and rotate clockwise until the screw holes line up. If it's done properly, you should feel some spring tension on the sensor.
I would also check the voltage output prior to reinstalling the throttle body. Backprobe the harness connector to the TPS. Check out this page to get a better idea of what to be looking for.
Had spark from the coil but didn't check from the distributor. The truck started fine before I changed the TPS and pulled the distributor to change the o-ring.

Stupid question, but are you sure you reconnected the distributor harness? I know it's stupid but sometimes it's incredibly easy to overlook these things.
You need to check the voltage on the TP signel wire going back to the computer at closed and WOT and tell us what it is.
Use the SIG RTN wire in the TP wire plug for ground.
to make sure I do this right...do I check the end on the motor? or the end on the TPS? and what setting do I put my meter on?...volts or ohms...sorry for sounding dumb!!
Scale to 0-20 DC Volts
Looking for 0.7 to 5.0 VDC.
Use the TP Sensors plug about 5 inches from the TPS.
Back probe the plug and do not unplug it.
Use the link DBGrif91 gave you in post #2 above for more information.
Key on engine not running.
ok...checked voltage on TPS....works good....checked for spark at plugs....good....acts like it's out of time...but pulled dist. and set engine to TDC and re installed dist. so rotor was at no 1......what the @*#& did I do wrong??????????
Do not forget the crankshaft spins twice for every revolution of the camshaft. Are you sure cylinder #1 was on the compression stroke when you stabbed the dizzy?
