Throttle bodies

I have a '96 F250 4X4 with the 5.8 L and a 4-speed overdrive. My mechanic told me to change throttle bodies to help get some power out of this motor. I am purchasing a Diablo Delta chip for this truck to help with its pulling performance. He doesnt suggest the rear end change like I had planned because he doesnt think this will give me what I am looking for. He suggested the standard headers and exhaust and intake plus the throttle body. He thinks that the chip and throttle body will give me what I need in order to give me some more pulling power and still retain some reasonable gas mileage. I ordered this truck new, and it has gotten only 11.5 MPG period, uphill, loaded, empty, city, highway, pulling, or not. Ford dealers could not find anything wrong with this truck since it was new. Is this throttle body change going to help? I only plan to keep this truck for 1-2 more years. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changing the TB may add 5 hp. however, you will lose some velocity of the incoming air into the head port entrance resulting in less low end torque depending on how large you go.
The rearend change would help your pulling, but at the expense of burning more gas. Headers are always a good investment.

Thanks Hellraiser, just didnt quite understand what I would gain, if anything. Will probably just try the chip since I only plan on keeping the truck another year or so. Thanks again for the information every bit helps, especially me.

I don't know. I have a 93 150 longbed 4x4, 351, auto with 307 axles. I put headers, 3 inch flowmaster exh, and k&n fipk on it. It sounds alot better but it doesn't run any better. I got 10-11 before and got 10-11 after even with a hurricane blowing me down a hill. I wonder if a chip is worth it. Most only bump timing which will help but not if you have to buy premium gas.

If you are only going to own the truck for another year or two you will not recoup the costs for the exhaust, headers, chip, and throttle body.... just something to consider
