Hey guys Ive got a squeal thats like nails on a chalkboard coming from what sounds like my front end. Replaced rear driveshaft U-joints because theyve caused that before but that didnt fix it, checked pads and rotors and they were fine, hubs spin freely. Its intermittent, driving down the highway it rarely squeals but in town when im goin up to 30 mph it squeals alot, especially after making turns. Dont know if that has anything to do with it really. Cant get consistent enough results to tell if braking has anything to do with it. Any ideas? Im completely lost and hate driving around with it sounding this way.
Well the thing is that it definately related to the speed of the truck, the faster i go the higher pitched and more frequent the squeal, but as i come to a stop it does too. And I havent touched the front hubs. Anyone know where I can find a schematic? I dont have much of a clue as to how exactly everything is put in there and I dont have the time to screw things up.
Ok then i guess it determined by movement then. I would go with what jacob said and check your inside your hubs and look at your bearing and races. Also i know you said you checked your brakes and they are fine, but have you hit the brakes while its squelling to see if it stops, before you do, or gets worse? And the hubs have a lot of parts that can be wierd with your first time doing them but its good practice, not much to screw up really if you just pack everything with grease that needs it and put everything back in lol.
Ive been trying to see if braking makes the squealing quit but I cant get consistent results. At first the brakes didnt help at all, but then occasionally it would quiet the noise, but either way it still squeals 90% of the time if I try braking. Im thinkin that next weekend Ill just take apart the hub amd see what I can find. Thanks for the help guys, Im sure Ill be back with hub questions lol
