I have a 79 C-6 in my 52 F-1 and I have to either replace it or have it rebuilt. I have had this trans out once for what I thought was a main seal but I was wrong apparently. It still leaks like crazy. Anyways to the stupid question. When I pulled it out the first time I thought that far as bad as it was leaking there could not be any fluid left in it. WRONG! Is there a drain for the fluid that I'm just missing or a better way of getting the fluid out into a container and not all over my driveway. Stupid question I know but tranmissions are not my strong point!
I know its retarded I think all oil pans need a drain plug. From experience, I have found that if you take out all the bolts except for two in the front and two in the rear. Leave the rear two in about 3-4 threads and remove the forward two. Let the pan hang off of the two rears. That should keep MOST of the fluid in your pan instead of in you sewer drain. Remember, the only solution to polution is dilution

Thanks for the reply! It really sucked how much had to clean up and I did all I cold to keep it from the sewer but the worst part was what was going to the landfill in towels. Well at least I tried.
Disconnect the cooler line where it enters the rear of the transmission. Point this line into a bucket. Start the engine and run it. There will be some sputtering and air, then a solid stream, then air again. When you see air after the solid stream shut the engine off. Now there will only be a little fluid in the bottom of the pan.
