hi all and thanks for all the tips previously as I was trying to get my '86 6.9 to light off.
I did a compression test and way low in the front cylinders to the back still low but not much the back 2 holes.
anyway off comes the heads and I'd appreciate tips on pulling the IP with as least later on correction as possible.
thaks to all that chime in.
Tom with the layed-down 6.9.
Scribe a line of where your timing is! Use a razor, not a marker (I learned the hard way)
Leave the injector lines on as stated before, just disconnect them from the injectors. I removed the line from the fuel filter to the IP though, just to get it easier to maneuver out. Also easier if you remove the bolts that hold the throttle cable to the intake to give the IP any easier route out. Oh, and don't remove the gear cover.
Take your time and use your head, it's an easy procedure after the first time, same with the heads.
I took the ip hard line out as well, remove the throttle cable and unbolt the bracket from the intake manifold as well. That will make it easier to get the new one in.
