I have a 6.0, and I have striaght pipe turned down at the beggining of my bed. If i cut the exhaust back about even with the side mirrors would that make the sound any deeper or louder? also does it matter how short the exhaust is, will it cause any harm.
Also you will get a lot of exhaust fumes in your truck when idling with it cut off that far up, even at your box you must get a good smell goin on in there.
i put a turn down on the end of the pipe, i dunno if that makes a difference but i havnt noticed any fumes and its been that way for 2 yrs. im not to worried about the noise level in the cab either. right now i can only hear it when i get on it. outside of the truck it sounds like and airplane as my friends say. but im just looking for a deeper sound when i press the gas
mko diesel products is also well priced. where do you live? I bought the aluminized stuff for my truck and so far it has help up well, some guys say that without stainless steel they will rot them right out because of salt use on snowy roads.
If I was you, I would get a 5" exhaust and just dump it out in front of the rear tire, I did this for a while and trust me, it was loud, deep and LOUD! All I did was take the over the axle pipe and turn it around, make for the exhaust to exit out at a nice angle. YouTube - 5" straight piped 6.0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY5g8QeUqfw

Reason: another video
i live in south Alabama so the snow wouldnt be a problem. your truck sounds great and is loud. i could go with 5" but i really dont wanna spend much on getting a down pipe
Could cause thermocracked valves etc... You'll also loose some more low-end torque but you lost most of the [delta] torque (OEM to short) when you cut it short the first time so cutting it a little shorter will just mean that you'll only loose a little more. Why not just uncap the exhaust at the collector and call it good??
