Help!
So my new project is a total restomod LWB 1969 F-100, 390/C6 that belonged to my wife's (deceased) father.
How do I know which carb/intake manifold, headers, ignition system, water pump/fan, fuel pump, compression ratio/pistons, Camshaft etc.? I'm going nuts with trying to get the right combination. There are just too many decisions/combinations.
I'm thinking tire size, engine torque & HP. I feel a headache coming on.
The FE is a torque monster to start with. What are you wanting to do with it after it's finished. A daily driver or HomeDepot runner doesn't need a lot of performance parts bought. It doesn't need a huge carb. a 500/600 cfm will do very well for daily use. Something like Petronix ign. is great for daily use.
Racing is another deal.
Save the engine until last. A total resto will take 2-5 years or longer, so save that for the end.
Thanks for the feedback, John. More than anything else, it'll be a daily driver that will also be used to haul dirt & sand and such for doing work around the house (light duty) and also haul a pop-up camper with a small boat behind her for weekend fishing/camping trips around the Pacific Northwest. It would not be uncommon to drive 300+ miles one way to go fishing, but usually not more than 150 miles. Part of wanting to do things right is to showcase my work, get a little attention & possibly make some extra $ here & there as I get closer to retirement. I am also planning to do a 1967 Fairlane as a sort of commemoration for my dad. He's getting up there in years and used to own a 1967 Fairlane. It's always held a special place in my heart - as far as cars go, so that's another project that I'd like to get some attention after it's done. I have no clue about show cars and such and I don't have any intention of racing either - OK maybe once just to get the numbers, but not regularly.
Here's a link to my other thread. I probably should not have started two different ones, but I'll try to keep up with both.
