How much of a pain in the butt is it to put a lift greater than 3inches on an 89 bronco 2.I was thinking 4 inch.what all would I need parts wise and cost?
Well, i just bought a rough country 4" suspension lift including their leaf springs and nitro shocks. I havent installed it yet due to "high priority problems" im currently dealing with, but it seems fairly straight forward. The rough country kit offers either rear lift blocks or springs, and includes drop pitman arm, coil springs, all the nessicary front suspension drop brackets, u-bolts and all hardware. The leaf springs even came with poly bushings already installed. All the peices look heavy-duty and good. Now, there are a couple things that the lift kit didnt come with but you will need, including longer front and rear brake lines-i went with some braided stainless steel lines, and if your bronco II has the cv style rear driveshaft, you will have to swap it out cause it wont work with more than 2" of lift im told. Also, if you are lifting it and putting bigger tires/wheels on it, a front and rear gear swap might be needed or it will drive like a slug and have poor gas mileage. Might also be a good time to replace your bushings.
i think it was about $750 or something close to that...but on top of that, the stainless steel 4" extended front and rear brake lines were like $130 or something, and i still need to get a driveshaft
oh..and i think the most difficult part, at least for me is that you have to grind/cut off a bunch of rivets that hold the front suspension parts on, that makes me a little uneasy. I am debating on if i should just put her in the shop and let the pros do that part...haha
That is what has me lost right now also. I did see the one that james duff has on their website, and it is like $400. I also saw that broncograveyard.com has one that looks the same, and it is only like $200.
James Duff I know makes his own lifts, not sure about the Bronco graveyard. The BII I hope to purchase has a Duff #3 and it is excellent for open trail and moderate off-road use. We actually get pretty crazy in it and still use it on pavement sometimes. Drives excellent on both surfaces. I taked to him via phone and he was the most helpful guy as far a Bronco knowledge goes.
