i got a 99 windstar im working for a lady on disabiltiy. it needed new head gaskets etc... i got all my mechanical work done the little 3.0 runs nice now. but the battery light remained on so i thought ...battery.. i put a known good battery in it out of my 68 mustang and light still on. so i checked the output of the alternator running it was 12.84 so i snagged her a junkyard alternator i was picky getting it to make sure the hood was closed at the yard and i found one that looked new it was a reman. now it puts out 14.48 and the light remains on. ive reset the puter to no avail could the pcm be messed up thinking its not charging? I know its charging cause i just got back from running it for a test drive 10 miles got gas for her and ran the headlights on high beam the whole way with all the electricals running on high (fan, radio etc.. still the light is on. im tempted to tell her not to worry with it, Oh i also checked the battery off it was 12.55 volts that evening the next morning still 12.55 hooked up. any ideas?
well thanks anyway. i didnt see a windstar forum here maybe we need one... no i didnt miss any wires and i cleaned all connections thoroughly. like i said thanks again
I agree that the Aero is by almost every definition a "truck" from the ground up. Interestingly though, here in Michigan mine is titled as a "stationwagon". That is the way it was titled when I got it over eight years ago. That may have been a method to keep it from commercial license fees? It spent it's first years in Florida, and maybe that is where the stationwagon description came from?
Alas, here in Michigan the salt is starting to do it's rockerpanel thing. I plan on doing some thorough touchup, inspect the brake lines closely and replace if they really look bad. My wife just had knee surgery, and actually likes getting in and out of the Aero better than the Buick. After all these years, she is finally starting to see it my way
Yeah when i was buying her headgasket kit and such, the autoparts stores list them under truck in their computer too. anyway she has picked the car/truck/suv/stationwagon etc... up today. i havent had any problems with it charging with the junkyard alternator putting out 14.44 volts. so im thinking its gotta be puter glich, if the light bothers her too badly she may want to spend 200. on a reman puter,,,, i wouldnt worry with it. thanks guys blessings to all!
I'm trying to figure out the wiring on a 99 Windstar alternator. All aftermarket manuals show the yellow, wht/bk, Lt Grn/Red wires, but this 99 model does not use those colors. It has an Org, Red, Purple, three wire connector. The orange is the same as the +12V constant as the traditional Yellow wire on other Ford truck alternators.
I could not find a Windstar alternator in junk yard. I found a new reman 98 Explorer alt.
Mounting is the same, belt lines up, but different shape 3 wire connector with different color wires. I tried to test out each wire with meter to identify each one. Thought I had it, but Volt warning light on dash won't go off. The light is off with original alt, but original alt test bad.
If anyone has access to 99 Windstar charging wiring diagram, please help. I went by local Ford dealer today and they claim to not have any books or access to manuals or diagrams for vehicles over 10 years old. I asked them how they would work on this 99 Windstar if I brought it in for service and the guy just dropped his head and wouldn't answer me.
I wouldn't use it as the 2 wires rd/pk and vt come from the computer and are made for only the alt that it should have. The og/lb wire doesn't look like its needed on the drawing..Just the other two wires.
