my 6.9 is sucking air into the system somewhere, is their any real good places to check, or things to eliminate. how about the water seperator? ???? trevor
trevor,,,the 6.9 has a water separator mounted on the firewall above the steering shaft. (thats where they used to be anyway) I have found that they do not seat after the drain is lifted to drain the water from the system. Try turning the ring on top of the separator then reseating it by letting it drop under its own tension. Also you may want to check out the return fuel lines from the top of the nozzles. There are o rings beneath the plastic caps that will allow the system to drain back and makes for air in the system. Best thing to do there is to replace every one of the Orings and check the caps for cracks or spread. Just go buy the injection pump mounting kit at an international dealer and install that kit. The only place for the engine to draw air in the fuel system is before the lift pump (that pump is mounted on the block, just like a gas burner. Anything after that lift pump is pressure. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.
hi
i did find a pin hole in the fuel suck line, and one of those hoses between injectors were leaking, and their is a slight leak in the fuel return line to the tank. i fixed all except the slight fuel return line leak, ran out of fuel hose. it also had 2 tanks, but one tank leaks so i do not use it, so i eliminated the fuel selector valve and ran the 2 lines to the one tank. do you think all of this will solve my problem of the engine just diying as if it had run out of fuel?
had a heck of a time running one down once. turned out to be the transfer pump. wasnt leaking, that you could tell, just pumping air into the system. truck would run a little while and quit. run a little while and quit. drove me nuts till i bypassed everything with a hose and electric pump and got it to run right. then started hooking things back up till it started dying again. lot of trouble, but it worked.
