TRANSMISSION FLUID + FILTER CHANGE
Anyway I'm doing a filter and fluid change and i've been told to use mercon v. What i got from napa was premium performance atf for vehicles requiring DEXRON111 or mercon, called the ford stealership and they said this would be fine to use but i figured i would ask you guys first before i put it in.I have read some horror stories about puttting in the wrong fluid and eating up the seals.
Could not find any specs in the little owners guide or diesel supplement other than the capacity.
Also read article by mark kovalsky on changing atf fluid in e4od plus other threads on the subject and nobody mentions the in line filter on the return line up front by the transmission cooler. As i am replacing this filter too,Should i remove the old filter and hook the clear hose up to the return line at this location instead of where it bolts to the transmission?
I usually let grease monkey do this job but i wanted to look inside the pan this time.
But I don't know of any 97's with a 4r100. thats the SD trans.
I'd find some good full snyth ATF from schaefers or ams, or maybe royal purple.
Your spending the money, but the trans is so touchy on things that your better off spending the money.
Which reminds me. I need to change mine.
