I am starting to experience some stiction issues - rough start first time out in the morning, no umph when I first hit the gas, then all goes away after five minutes of driving. I want to try a couple things before a mechanic. Here's the question: will I do further damage to anything if I wait to use rev-x/HSS or get it reflashed (not sure which one I have)? Can I wait until the next oil change or if I can live with it or does this need to be addressed at once? It is a 2006 with 140,000 miles.

Thanks for any advice you care to share.

I'm don't believe you'll hurt anything short term with a rough idle until the injectors warm up, however it's not an ideal situation either.
First and foremost I would take it to a Ford shop and get the inductive heating flash installed if you don't already have it. I'm sure they can hook it up and confirm what version you have on your truck.
Then it's either running Rev-X (2 bottles for first application and then 1 bottle thereafter) or a synthetic oil to reduce the stiction effects.
On the oil additives you can add them anytime so if your far out before your next due just remove some oil and put the additive in..thats where I would start
and have some one pull your strategy it may already be
a newer one
Is there anything cheaper than rev-x?
....For example adding a quart of high detergent synthetic oil after draining a quart of my newly changed oil?
I think I may be having some stiction issues myself.
I know I do not have the newest flash, but truck has only ever had 2 parts replaced in 92,000 miles.
1 injector while owned by previous owner & ICP last year by myself.
I would not start with a re-flash. I would start with rev-x and go from there.
The reflash is actually to prevent FICM issues from overly aggressive inductive heating strategies.
00Buck75--cheaper than Rev-x yes, but basically a waste of money IMHO. Rev-x works unless you have a mechanically failure. If you are having a stiction problem then it will help. PERIOD.
I'm going to get the Rev X and see if the dealer can tell me if I'm running the inductive heating flash. Do they usually do that for free? I haven't had to use them for any work, just minor parts purchases.

Dealer and free don't go in the same sentance......ever! They charge a hour of labor to do it if I remember right.
Just so I understand - an hour of labor to check if it's the latest flash? Not to install a new one?
MOST dealerships charge an hour labor to reflash a truck. They plug in IDS and it will tell them if updated programming is available for your particular vehicle. If your truck hasn't been to a dealership for work since December of 09 then you don't have the latest flash.
One other thing to confirm your stiction theory. Check your ficm voltages when cold and again after warm up. If at anytime it is below 47 to 48 volts that could be your problem. Procedure to check the ficm is in the tech folder.
