I know it's been done, but it's not a good idea. A rack and pinion was designed to be mounted in a stationary position. If you mount it on the axle, it moves up and down with the suspension and this movement will result in bump steer. Bump steer is where the steering wheel moves back and forth when you go over bumps...

The 37 is pretty much stock dual carbs original flathead v8 bored 40 over mallory ignition stock rear and tranny has a new pro picks bed interior from 86 ford taurus iditit tilt steering column i am in the process of painting it now has over sized tires I maybe selling it this summer. I really dont like the way it handles Ive driven it about 600 miles it has front and rear sway bars but that steering bow has got to go

I undersatnd how the R&P unit would have to be mounted solidly to the straight axle but how the heck would you connect the R&P unit to the steering column with all that movement in the R&P going up and down over every bump?

I dont know if it would work either do you know of a inexpensive steering box to put in it
