Backed into my parking space this morning, truck completely stopped, foot on brake, and when I shifted from reverse to park, I heard a grinding noise. Shifted back to reverse then to park and it happened again, then I could not repeat it. Anyone else have this going on?
I had this happen once also. I figured it had something to do with 4x4 because I had just shifted it in and then when I put the truck in drive it made a grinding sound. I had to put it in neutral and shut the truck off and back on to get it to stop. Reverse was ok but park made made the same sound.
My truck (and many/most others) exibit strange shifting at times as well. Different flashes were supposed to address this - but as many have reported, it has not.
There have been some rumours (for what thats worth) of a new flash agian to tweek the tranny yet again, but no firm info at this time.
I've also never heard a grinding noise. The transmission does get "clunky", though. Especially going from Reverse or Drive to Park.
When I park backwards in my parking garage at work, I always shift to neutral first and release the brake pressure. Then shift into park. That releases the strain on the transmission without making the truck roll backwards. This is important for my situation, because I'm usually within an inch or so of the concrete wall (thanks to the backup camera and lots of practice). If I don't do it this way, the truck tends to roll backward another inch after I put it into park. It also "clunks" significantly louder if I fail to follow this little procedure.
If you're hearing more than a "clunk"... I think a dealer should be your next stop.
BTW - who would have thought that the *really* complicated and completely new 6.7L would be nearly problem-free... and the comparatively simple and not-as-new transmission would give us so many issues?

I do this exact thing on even a slight slope.
Let the park brake take the pressure then shift to park.
Mostly prevents that loud clunk or it isn't as bad.
