Hey I was thinking of picking up some "super bright LED's"(think that’s the name). There about 40 bucks. They come 4 in a pack and I was wondering how to go about hooking them up. Can I just run a positive and negative straight from my battery put a toggle switch in then run the positive and negative parallel? Any help appreciated
A typical led needs a resistor in series to limit current or it burns out. Some have a resistor built in. About 800 ohms for 12 volt operation. Also, since it is a diode, it only works one way. There is a flat spot by one lead that is the negative side.
You'd be much better off buying assemblies like you see on 18-wheelers & ambulances. They're already wired for 12V and come in an increasingly wide variety of shapes. You can get them here and from many other suppliers.
