Oil Change

I bought an 02 F250 PSD with 170,000 miles back in December. I did an oil change in January and am coming up on three months. I drove about 1200 miles in those three months, daily driving short trips between 5 and 30 miles a day. My question is do I wait to hit 3000 or 4000 miles or do the oil change at the three month interval? I just don't want to do it if it's unnecessary.

I also just received my DP Tuner and will install tomorrow, cant wait!

Thanks!!

Well you didn't say if it was synthetic or Dino, either way you can go 5,000 miles between changes at least.

Yeah, unless you are in really dusty conditions, go for 5k and with syn, you can stretch that on out.

With amsoil you could go 10000, just keep an eye your oil level

I would change it at 3k. When you change it, that would be a good time to pull an oil sample and sent it out for analysis. Since you know little about the history of the maintenance, it would be good to get a baseline on what you have. If the analysis comes back normal, you can then extend out the mileage, based on the report. I use Blackstone-Labs for my analysis, cost is $25.

I never pay attention the time the oil has been in the crankcase. Only go by miles . I really don't know why they say "3 months or 3 thousand miles, which ever comes first" This is stupid, oil doesn't go bad. Just trying to get you to change more often, I guess.

I double that at 3000 miles, that said if you go 5000 every once and a while so be it no problem, Dino. Wait to you run that DP Tuner. I love mine and still need to update it. What tunes did you get? Good luck,

Congrats on the tuner. Remember leave your keys on the kitchen table until the install is complete.

Since you just bought the truck 3000 mile sample would be ok. After that if all's well, you can go alot more up to 10,000 JMOP.

IMO. change it after 3,000 and then you can move the mileage out from there. But remember to check your oil level as diesels do burn a little oil.
