Im not trying to start a big argument just looking for some advice on a set of mud tires. im currently running 315/75/16 Dick Cepek fun country IIs they have 40,000 miles on them with alot of life left but they are getting dry cracked. i want 315/75/16s or larger for my f350 that will last a decent amount of time. I do a decent amount off road but not to much but when i do i need good tires. What have ya'll had that did good in mud but also lasted good on our heavy trucks. So far im looking at the Goodyear Wrangler MTR, Cooper Discoverer STT, Toyo open country mud terrain, BFGoodwrench M/T T/A KM Thanks Justin
I have Firestone Destination M/T's probably 50% tread left and 90% of its life is on pavement, pretty quiet really, so far 28,000 miles. Very happy with them, I had BFG's KM2's that I got about 35,000 miles, but I like the destination's better, and they are more aggressive.
I have a set of BFG's I use for hunting season, I have them mounted on stock rims. I personally wont run a mud tire year round. I can't stand the noiise and wearing out a off road tire on the road. Kinda like these punks running boggers in show trucks. I can say that cause I did it to, but now I am older and wiser.
Toyo Open Country M/T's are the best tire I've had. I've had 5 sets on my truck and never had a flat yet. I run on a lot of blasted rock and flats were a huge problem with BF's and other brands. Toyo's are awesome in the mud and snow as well.. I put them through the tests !!! (trust me)
I would suggest the Nitto Trail Grappler. They are the quietest mud-terrain I have ever owned. Can't speak much to tire life as they only have 3k on them, but so far so good. Switched off my Toyo Mud-Terrains. Wish I'd have done it sooner. Not a big fan.
Might also consider BFG AT tires. They were pretty good. Couldn't get in the size I wanted, so went with something different. Older set I had was really good.
I got 285/75 16 dayton timberlines mostly highway and towing, they are quiet and I have been surprised how well they do off road. Almost vertical shot up thick muddy climb about 40-50 ft and no problem. ran over countless objects in the road and still no flats (bolt got stuck, but did not puncture) pulled class c truck through snowbank this winter. But then again I have only had them 10 months. lots of mileage though
My limited experience (and others will back me on this I'm sure) is that the Toyo M/T is great in deep snow or mud but sucks ***** on ice. The BFG AT's on my Super Duty were a good tire but I had a hard time with them wanting to wear funny (285's on stock wheels is probably to blame here). I ran Toyo A/T's back in my gasser days and they were great winter tires too, but they aren't as good in deep snow as the M/T (I just recently pulled my buddy out of the snow... he was running new Toyo A/T's and I have worn out M/T's )
As of right now I called and priced the Toyo open country M/T, Goodyear Wrangler, Hankook RT03 M/T, Buckshot Mudder, and also one place quoted me on the Mickey Thompson MTZ. The buckshots are the cheapest but have not found anyone that run them to see how they lasted. Has anyone ran Hankooks? Ive talked to a few ppl and they said that the Goodyear Wranglers were loud on the highway. And the Toyo open country The only one i know that has a set is RussB on here
If your looking for a good cheap tire try looking at ''pitbull tires'' I would post a link but I dont know how. I dont have any personal experience but have talked to a few people that have had them and they seem to like them, they are about the most bang for the buck too. If it were me I would go with the nito mud grappler
