oil problems

I have a 78 bronco with a 400 engine. The problem started yesterday when i noticed the oil gauge needle go up high. Its still in the normal range but in the top part. When im driving it stays up high and after awhile when im coming to a stop it goes down, then when i completely stop it goes down to the middle. What can be the problem. I would really appreciate any advice.

how long since your last oil change, what weight of oil are you running, and what kind of temps weather wise?

also look into installing a mechanical pressure gauge. this way you know exactly what the pressure is.

About 3 months on my last oil change and i used 40 oil. I live out here in el paso so its getting pretty hot weather. On the mechanical gauge what is suppose to be the readings.
