66 Short Styleside
Don't want to sell, but I'm tired of my 54 Ford project sitting in the 90% completion stage and am determined to finish it.....and I need the $$ to do so.
This thread does a pretty good job of describing the truck.
I'm the second owner, it's an all original (including the paint), Oklahoma truck. When they're in original paint like this one, they can't hide their flaws.
This one has rust in the cab supports that are under the doors, but only about half of those supports are toast.
The rest of the truck is solid.....no rust in the bed.
The 240 needs a new oil pan gasket and is leaking oil from there, but otherwise runs super. I take it out on the interstate all the time running 70.
I hated to sell it, but I needed the cash.
It's been grand hanging out with you. I'm sure I'll be looking for another Slick somewhere down the line.
Take care.
I am the purchaser of Shortwide's 66 F100. Wow, the Internet is an amazing tool isn't it. I decided to do some surfing and research about the 66 and low and behold I find a wealth of posts and info on the truck I am buying. I've read through pretty much every thread while enjoying a nice bottle of wine with my wife.
What I find truly encouraging is pretty much everything Don (Shortwide) told me about the truck is also covered in his posts here on this forum.
My wife wanted an old "Ranch Truck" to keep at our Lake Home (er, we now call it Country Home as lake is drying up from the drought).
Short wide has done a fine job of working some of the bugs that result from long term storage, out of the truck. I'm an old gear head, with my last project being a non numbers matching 64 Corvette.
I look forward to picking up where Shortwide has left off with this un-molested piece of American history. My goal is to keep it in it's current state of survivor status as much as possible, only making upgrades to the mechanical integrity for dependability. It will only be making routine trips to the nearest town from our Lake/Country home for groceries or hardware store runs.
Looking forward to learning and sharing the experience of owning this classic vehicle..
What is truly amazing is the fact I saw This truck one morning when driving to work apparently when Don was commuting to work. It really caught my attention and caused me to begin looking at pictures to find out the year model. From there I began checking Craigslist and had just got back from the LSU game in Tuscaloosa and did a quick search only to find the ad. A few emails and phone calls ensued, then made the short 10 mile drive to look at it. Had to ask Don to drive it for me on the road test because I had injured my right shoulder and could not shift through the gears without significant pain.
Will be picking up the truck tomorrow !!!

It's a great little truck.
I'll tell you this when you come pick it up this afternoon, but.....down the road, if you want to sell it, call me. I may want it back.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Nice and honest.
Tad came and picked her up this afternoon. The survivor shorty is in great hands now....probably better off, to be perfectly honest.
Well he did...and I am going to get it!
Tad's been a great steward of this special little truck. He has done a ton of maintenance on it and has replaced some of the significant items that really needed it after nearly 50 years (alternator, shocks, exhaust, etc, etc).
I can't wait to have it back in my stable. I'm literally counting the hours.
This'll make me the 2nd and 4th owner of this sweet little time capsule. An added bonus is that Tad lives over two hours away...which means that I get to cruise back home for an extended amount of time for my reunion drive.
I'll post some photos and maybe even a video of it cruising back to my place.
Tad took good care of it, but like he told me, they hardly ever drove it and it was sitting around way too much and that's never a good thing for an old vehicle.
It was struggling to hold an idle at stoplights and was stumbling a little bit when accelerating....all signs of a gummed-up carburetor. So the carb will need to be gone through but that's no surprise with today's horrible gas and a truck that's been sitting a lot. I rebuilt this carb back when I had it before and I may just buy an entirely new one if I can find one.
Other than that, my focus will be on painting and installing the contour rear bumper and installing all new door and window rubbers.
There will be other things down the line, but that'll be a good start.
