I have a 2004 250 with 153,000 miles. It sat for about a month or so, and when I fired it up recently after putting new batteries on, it won't accelerate as strongly as it used to. It seems like the turbo air isn't getting into the engine. I can hear it spinning up really strongly, but it's not helping the engine it seems like. It can get up to highway speeds, but its almost like it's acting like a naturally aspirated engine. Thoughts?
Check the BLUE boot on the turbo outlet side. If it is cracked or as sometimes happens, blown off, it will do exactly that.
And if everything is well after checking ALL of the boots from the turbo...to the inter-cooler and back to the intake; you may have stuck vanes on the turbo.
id do like the previous 2 posts say, then i would pull the air cleaner and check it.youd be surprised what will decide to take up residence in there after a prolonged sit.also try the vgt re-learn strategy in the tech folder.
Found a 1in tear in the boot. Is this big enough to cause the problem? Also, can I replace this with some basic hose from auto zone or is the factory ford part with the clamp stapled to it absolutely essential?
