I am up to 51,000 miles on the 05 4.6L V8 Explorer and have read about the servo bores wearing out, so I'm wondering if a fluid change this year would help to prevent or slow down bore wear in mine.
Also, since the pan has no dipstick, is there an aftermarket pan available that has a dipstick, and would a deeper pan made of aluminum and with cooling fins help keep the oil cooler and prolong trans life?
Could you explain how to change the oil?
I also was thinking of changing oil in the rear diffy. How do I do that and what oil goes in? I have done other diffs, but I'm wondering if this is done the same way.
And coolant. I'm thinking of flushing it out. I'll use the G-05 type like was originally used. I have done other cars by installing a flushing tee, but I'm not sure which hose would be right. Anyone know how to flush this?
Thanks for the help.
being 5 years old and 50k miles is a good time to change transmission oil. Pull drain plug and dump out the 5 quarts of oil. REmove the pan. Change the filter element inside. Wipe any crud off the valve body and pan/ magnet. NOte that the plug is a small plug similar to 1/8 inch pipe inside a bigger 1 inch type plug. Remove the small center plug. Outer plug is a tube about 2 inches tall, that is the level of the oil. After plug is back inside the pan, use a weed sprayer with 5 quarts of MERCON V and manually pump it into the small pipe plug hole untill the oil runs backward out the hole. IT is full up to the top of the tube...... Coolant flush TEE can go in either heater hose... 5/8 or 3/4 inch type with a cap.. Rear axle should be 75 W 140 synthetic oil. Pull the 1 inch size plug bottom backside and drain out. There is a 1/2 inch type pipe plug 4 inches above that to refill. THere is no pan to remove and clean.
