ive been telling myself im gonna buy a beater to drive to work. this way i could park the ol girl and use her only when i need her. now im kicking around the idea of just putting the beater money into the ol girl and keeping her.
im thinking of sending my pcm and getting it reflashed for the 80e, get the rest of the 4"exhaust, and a cai. anybody have any idea how much more mpg (if any) i mite get?
this is just a idea im kicking around. havent made up my mind yet. i take all the input and advice i can get
i've pondered the same thing, but then i do the math ....few grand for the beater, then you got gas price for it, and insurance then, to cover it, plus the wear/tear price on it......"doesnt hold water" in my glass.
maybe its just me but ive never thought these big trucks were daily drivers. i run around in my focus or fusion and the truck or excursion are driven when they need to be. maybe a few grand up front but compare your 120-140 dollar fillups to my 35 dollar fill up. that 90-100 dollar difference adds up quick. 10 weeks with a fill up once a week equals a 900-1000 dollar difference. thats just 2.5 months add all that up in one year and your beater will be paid off and you can run around on minimal insurance if you wanted and that car will cost you next to nothing!
not the answer i was hoping for
im all in on the fun side too
If you want mileage you just have to get something else. Here in Calif., fuel is 4.30 gallon. I paid that much last time when a barrel of oil was $147.oo. Never got that high this time but they are putting it to us.
I plan on doing alot of traveling and towing with my truck so I guess we're stuck. I like to drive it and I don't like somebody telling me to get a conpact,( Gov., etc.) They are safe but we have to pay for that comford.
Good luck on whatever you decide. Chet

i like driving mine too.thats why i was thinking about just putting the money into it instead of the beater. fuel is 3.88 here. not quiet so bad compared to yours
I won't get ride of my truck, BUT I do have a 23yr old Accord, affectionately known as the "fast car", that flys right by those gas pumps . Also in times like now when I'm doing work on my truck that leaves it out of commission for periods of time, I don't have to use mama's wheels.
Note: Buy the time I get done refreshing the rear axle on my truck... I could by another Honda.
Couple summers ago, Diesel was $5.00 a gallon almost the entire summer. I bought a Toyota corolla for $500. Put $200 in tires on her. Paid for itself in 8 weeks with insurance and all just for the price of Diesel. Sold it the following summer for $1000. Diesel is now $4.17. That summer was a beater summer or motorcycle. Trucks didn't move unless to pull the campers someplace. And some trips got canceled. Sometimes it justifies to get a cheap car. CHEAP !..
Another beater POS Honda owner here. My truck would suck driving in traffic and trying to park it in a parking garage at work so the POS idea works for me.
