4 days ago I went on a 200mile trip truck running fine I stopped at the store and came back and my truck wouldn't start. Just kept turning over. After about 4 trys it started ran rough for a few seconds and smoothed right out. Since then it takes a bit longer to start like 15-20 seconds. Cycling the key on and off a few times doesn't change that. Today I went to the store came back out it would not start so I put in my spare cps sensor and nothing. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and tryed, it sounded a little better but no start so i pumped the pedal a few times and it started rough and smoothed right out. I changed my fuel filter and that didn't help still takes about 20seconds to start. I tried to check my hpop oil level but the allen head cap is stripped(put a reman in about 100,000 ago) Does anybody have any suggestions or where I should start??
I was going to say check the HPOP oil level. A good pair of flat nose vice grips will grab the plug on the reservoir and allow you to remove it.
Have you tried starting with your ICP sensor unplugged? Checked the wires going to the IPR for any chaffing or brittle insulation? Tin nut on the IPR snug?
Be sure and check the wiring at your 5.6k mod too.
So after the truck sat all night i checked the oil level and it was 2" from the top. The tin nut was tight and the wires seemed ok. I tried starting it and it was the same 20 seconds. I shut it off and unplugged the icp and no change it started the same way. I then rechecked the oil in the hpop and it was filled to the correct level. I apologize I don't have acces to a scanner I am currently away from home right now.
I had a similar problem as yours were it would just crank and it eventually started shuting off while idle and wouldn't start. I ended up replacing the CPS and the ICP and still nothing. It was the IPR that was the culprit the whole time. When i replace mine the old one had metal shavings around the magnet for some reason. They are $100+ but my truck has been a happy camper ever since.
I'm going to have to llok into that. Its kinda weird I let it sit for an hour and went back and checked the oil again and it didn't move its still full. I started it and it started pretty much normal 4 times in a row. I say normal as in the amount of turns it takes but its still kinda weird. Its almost as if it when it starts its doesn't have enough fuel, kinda like less rpms I guess then it jumps to like 900-1000rpms for a split second then its normal.
also there was a little bit of oil in the icp connector. I don't know if thats left over from the drivers side hp oil line i blew like 8 months ago or not tho cause everything pretty much took an oil bath. It has never stalled after it was running either. I have had an issue for the past couple of years tho where when I am accelerating from a stop it completely loses power and almost stalls and then runs fine. This only happens maybe once every 3-6 months tho. I should mention I have 310,00 on her. The only things I have replaced are the HPOP, Injectors, glow plugs, uvch, turbo, torque converter and flexplate. everything else is original.
as the day went on today i kept monitoring my oil level and it didn't move and i would start it every hour or two and it started getting better so I took it on a 5 mile trip and got backshut it off and it wouldn't start again. Using my superchip I also got 7 codes. The oil in the ICP connector kinda has me leaning towards that, but not positive.
P1280
P1249
P1316(I've had this since I replaced my injectors last year)
P0478
P1212
P1211
P0541
I'm definetally planning on the 50 cent mod. I know the meanings of the codes, I just wish I had the use of the scanner I use at work back in maine. Money is an issue right now being laid off for winter. I'm going to called ford tomorrow and hopefully find out about a rebuild kit for the IPR and possibly get an ICP as well and see what that does
So I ordered an ICP sensor and it came today. I put it in and the truck fired up awesome!! I went on a couple mile drive and it seem to be running better then it has in a couple of weeks. So I thought that was it. When I got back I shut the truck down and restarted... what do you know it wouldn't crank. After a couple of trys I held the key for 30 seconds it finally started. I'm assuming its my IPR now.
I finally got acces to a scanner. I have a few concerns. Watching it start the oil pressure jumps up quick once it starts it peaks to 2200psi then drops to 600-800ish at idle. Revving it up it doesn't go any higher then 1800psi tho. That seems low to me. Also why cranking the injection pressure duty cycle and inj press regulator duty cycle climb to 64%.
600 - 800 is actually a little high at idle, but normal for a cold engine start. Does it drop down to 500 or less once it warms up a bit?
It IPR hitting 64% means it's maxing out and you have a leak somewhere. Watch your IPR % at idle, both cold and after it warms up. Is there any sings of oil in the bottom of your fuel filter bowl?
