We talked last week via email about wheels and tires. If you decide you not going to keep the 67's wheels and tires I will gladly swap you mine off my 68', to keep you rooling and some $$, I am in desperate need. Let me know when you need help though.
Dory, the reason your back tires didn't line up in the wheel openings on the box was because of the 74 cab. Ford added an extra two inches in length to the cabs behind the doors starting in 73. The boxes are all the same length.
It's coming apart. No turning back now. The front clip is deplumbed and dewired.
I should remove the 3 bolts that pass thru the support strut of the fender, not the 3 going through the cab wall, right?
It appears that I will have to remove the tires, as the front fenders appear to slide underneath the cab for a bit before it can be lifted off. Does this sound right?
I plan to remove the front bumper, the 3 bolts at the top of the fender and the frame mounting bolts and then I should be able to slide it forward and then lift it up. I'll be using a shop crane attached at the hood latch(near rad. cap) and the hood hinges (the hood is off). And I'll probably get a buddy to help me guide it.
Removing those three bolts will allow the inner fenders to come off of the cab. Be aware that there are two more points on each inner fender attached to the firewall-both are fiber straps that have one bolt in the firewall and one in the inner fender. The outer fenders of course bolt to that inner fender, and there is a bolt on each outer fender that bolts to the cab. So, to get all the fenders off while still bolted to each other, you'll have to remove the three bolts in your picture, the bolts through the straps, the bolts to the outer fenders through the cab, and the bolts underneath the radiator that hold the front plate (the part the headlight buckets are bolted to) to the frame.
Sounds like you're in for a lot of fun. Are you planning on doing this over the next few weekends? Let us know; some of us are in the area as you know.
It'll probably be better to take out the bolts that go into the firewall on those inner fender supports and leave the through bolts in place. The fenders will pull out a bit at the bottom when you get the bolt Russ mentioned and the bottom bolt out so you shouldn't have to remove the front tires if someone's helping. There's also a rubber strap attaching the lower inside corner of each inner fender to the firewall. I think that's all...:)
Thanks guys, I think I have found most of the bolts. Except the one attching the outer fender to the cab, about where is it?
I hope to make some real progress this weekend, provided these allergies or sinus infection or cold, whatever it is that's ailing me, does not limit me to surfig the web :-)
Hopefully removing the ugly front clip first will help me to remove and reinstall the pretty one without damage.
For you central Texas boys with nothing better to do, PM me and I'll tell how to get here :-)
There was a bolt holding the fender to the cab, down below. One of the nut holders broken and I had to grind off the other one, see bottom picture.
I'm thinking I should extend the project now. Get the 67 body done right and build up a 427/428 crank. The wife graduateswith honors from UT Law in May :-)
