So I needed to do some suspension work so I yanked the 460 out that has 3600 miles on rebuilt. It went straight to a stand where it sat for a year covered and the only work done was I painted it. I drained the oil about about 6 months ago to pivot it on the stand. I put the engine back in last weekend and went to roll the crank to bolt up the converter and it will not budge... I took it back out to check alignment and all was good, still will not budge. Any ideas? I'm a complete noob when come to engines and everyone I talk to say say "Hmmmm never heard of this after just a year" It ran when I took it out (backed it into the shop) Hoping for a easy fix cause I can't afford for someone to tear it down again, word I keep getting is put some type of lube in the cyl and be patient but I want to wait to see if any of you all experienced this? Thanks in advance for the info.
If engine will not roll? If moisture in cylinder and caused rings to stick add some marvel mystery oil per cylinder and should free up cylinder. Also once engine oil back in engine could prime oil with a drill and get oil throughout engine in critical spots. Have to pull distributor and rig up tool to turn oilpump shaft to do this. But believe the engine has froze up rings to cylinder. marvel mystery oil and let set for a day or so and hopefully free up engine. good luck!
I would put 1 ounce per cylinder through the spark plug holes. After letting it sit for a day try rocking the crank using the dampner bolt and a long breaker bar or cheater both ways, just a little at a time til it rotates evenly with the plugs out.
Is the truck is a auto ? If it is were you sure the converter was in all the way ?
That is a very important question. He didn't mention not being able to bolt the engine and bell housing together though. Usually they won't go all the way to the block if the converter is not fully seated in the pump. I have seen more than a few busted bells because someone tried to force the assembly.
