Can't find a liting in the parts CD; since they were optional equipment apparently. Anyone know for sure they are 7/16" x 2" ? (for a Bonus Built) I am talking about the bolts from the brackets to the frame. Thanks in advance
Ross - Section 17796 in the 48-52 Chassis Manual. Models C, D, Y. Bolt (rear bumper to frame) #24493-S7. It's listed in a section with one of the bracket arms. It's 1/2" x 20 tpi x 1 5/8". You wouldn't by chance be one of the guys that paid almost $750 for one of these bumpers in the past few weeks? I've seen two sell recently on epay, each for almost $750. Yikes. Stu
Can you imagine some text messaging teen getting real close and personal with your $750 bumper?!! I got a nice one on a parts truck years ago, and at the current value of the bumper the rest of the truck cost me $50. On one of my trucks, though, the bumper will be at headlight level on the other guy. Stu
My thoughts exactly! The one I'm putting on is made of 6" AISI C-channel, minimum 1/4"-thick steel, not sheet metal. I pity the fool who encounters it! It appears a couple of people already have, it's not real straight.
So the reason I asked if they were 7/16" is because I measured one of the holes in the brackets I bought from LMC. It is clearly not 1/2", but it turns out the other hole is (the one further forward, that is elongated). Repro parts strike again.
After seeing that near $800 bumper + S & H on upay I feel darn good about aquiring a straight one for $100.00 w/ the brackets a few yrs. ago. It came from a FTE member so that may explain the price .A brother helping out a brother .Know of a man in Idaho who has 3 of them but won't let them go . Maybe after he hears about the $750 one sold on upay he will reconsider .Will keep after him to sell some . I hope he is a tall person . Maybe he plans on taking them with him when he departs this world .
I have one (almost) sold for (almost) that price, but it was re-chromed. The second one that I have is also sold, but only at half the price. Hmmm.... maybe I should be hunting for more of these rear bumpers.
I'm waiting to get these back from repair. One will be chrome and the other will be primered.
Why would Ross ever put this beautiful bumper on his truck? This bumper was NOS when I got it and had it painted two-stage black color. Ross caught me at a vulnerable moment and I let it go.
Ross, are you ever going to put that nice bumper on? If not, I'll pay you double what you paid for it. Or, to make things easier, put it on eBay and we'll split the profit.

Hey, it's my retirement account! Just got the bumper that came with the truck installed, after torching off about 30 lbs of god-awful brackets and fender braces:
Ain't it a beauty?! I can't wait to have a Hyundai hit it...
I had one just like it on the '53 I had in college, complete with hitch ball. Some moron slid into it at a gas station, and gave me the "c'mon, it's just an old truck" routine. So I just took off -- with his grill hooked on the ball!
