Just want to know what you guys make of this. I'm thinking it's due to never grounding my new negative bat cable to the frame and the block, but just the block. It appears to me it's overheating or overloading in some way, I'm just not sure what the direct cause is. By the way, both cables were replaced at the same time and are less than a year old.
This is the negative cable for color reference.
Now here's the positive cable- note the darkened area and corrosion compared to the negative cable.
The corrosion is caused by the gasses comming from the battery vents. Clean it, replace the bolts, put a treated felt washer underneath the clamps, then coat it all with a light coat of oil.
Please dont use the washers. What happens is they then absorb all the acid and if not looked at for awhile will eat thru everything as well.
Best to take it all off, boil some water and add baking soda and clean it all off. The baking soda will neutralize and clean the acid off. Once its all clean get some battery terminal protector, the permatex brand I like the best. Spray the terminals and then spray the caps as well.
Glad to hear about the washers. Just did the 3G upgrade, new cables, battery etc. Bought the washers but forgot to install them, was going to do it today.
I agree with what was said about the washers even though I recommended them. I use them, but I also service my battery terminals twice a year and always change the wahers out. I also agree about the Permatex battery protector, but oil is cheaper for me.

And clean the top of that battery, it's shameful! The terminals on my nasty batteries sometimes turn black like that. My clean batteries always have clean terminals.
