Looking to buy a 97 F150 4.6L, 4x4, the guy told me he was pulling a camp trailer and the rear driveshaft fell out. All looks well with the driveshaft which is in the back of his truck.
He tells me it is some type of sensor that needs to be replaced under the hood. Any truth to that.
The truck will still drive with move with front part of the 4 wheel drive.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to let a good truck get away if it's as simple as putting the drive shaft back in.
check out the output from the transfer case, and also the rear axel where the drive shaft ataches. one of my budies old dodges lost the drive shaft after a burnout snapped the shaft the pinion rides on. look for anything that looks broken, go for a drive and pay real close attention for any grinding/poping noises from the rear.
All looks well with the drive shaft which is in the back of his truck.
How can the drive shaft look good if it fell out? There should be a broken u-joint. It may have been removed for another reason. Maybe the transmission; transfer case; diff is defective. If the sensor is 4wd related the transfer case operation may be defective.
More than likely an expensive fix to him or he wouldn't be selling it.
