What is this wire for?

Today I pulled my in dash cup holder out of the dash. When I got it out a wire fell down from above. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it was/is for?

Here is a pic.

On a side note, I did find a cup holder! Here is the difference in them. My old one is on the right and the new ( used) one is on the left! I like the new one's style better because I feel the cups are held in better. I did find a small floor mat for the middle hump though, so it will catch the drips instead of my carpet!

I didn't think about it till I got home from the place I bought the cup holder from, but I should have bought the piece of plastic with the hook on it too. This cup holder has an ashtray in it so I really don't need 2 ashtrays. Really don't even need one. lol The hook would have been great for attaching a garbage bag to. Guess I will have to go back one day and get one.

If that is what it is, is it supposed to help the truck idle better or something? The truck seems to idle fine with it not hooked to anything!

Ok, can someone now give me a real answer instead of the "dumb blonde" answers?

The AIC is designed for police, emergancy, and "working" trucks to keep the idle at approximately 1,300 RPM's so that the electrical system can maintain sufficient voltage to support various accesories (lights, compressors, etc.) The truck has to be in park with the emergancy brake on for the AIC to operate. The AIC is an "add-on" accessory.

My 2005 F350 has an AIC connection but it is located under the steering column (see pic below).

Kim,

I think that plug is for the ESOF (electronic shift on the fly) switch, but since your truck is a 2WD it isn't used.

You will definitely like the newer style cupholder. Apparently the older style that you replaced had a nasty habit of releasing full coffee cups on sharp corners.

It's not the ESOF switch. I agree it looks like the passenger airbag deactivation switch connector, but it's difficult to see the wire colors in the pictures.

Wire?

If you have factory towing package it is the harness to which you connect an aftermarket brake controller.

No. The factory brake controller connector looks nothing like what is shown in the picture.

He's giving it to you straight. My truck has power pedals - they move forward and back via a switch on my dash. However I have the same plug open in my dash as well. When I pulled my dash panel to install a stereo I noticed it. There's actually a "blank" holder for it on the back of the dash panel next to the "power point".

The diagram of the passenger airbag deactivation looks to be dead on accurate. Not sure why there is no switch or some way to use it, unless it's this way for crew cab trucks. The logic being the only reason to deactivate the passenger airbag would be for a child's car seat or child, if you have a crew cab the car seat or child should be in the back. Maybe two door trucks and extra cabs have a switch there. My previous truck was an extra cab and there was a way to turn off the airbag. You had to insert the ignition key into the switch to turn it off.

Hope this helps.
