just finished puting a new motor in my 05 and fired it up for the first time last night. It ran a little rough at first but I thought nothing of it, just thought it needed a good test drive to get the air out of the high press oil system. well after a good 1/2 hour test drove it still felt like it had a dead miss. I started pulling injector plugs till I found the cylinder that had no power. did a compression check and cylinder #3 had 0psi.
Now the hard luck part. When i was puting the intake on i broke the head off a bolt and couldnt find where it went.................... I think i found it.

Oh snap. Some days just suck. Here's a beer on me -->
ok...
first pull the valve cover off. check your rockers and push tubes. if they are moving pull the head.
if the pison is damaged hang a new piston and rod. sublet the head to a machine shop if it not to beat up they may be able to save it.
maybe its got rocker arm is hung up. hopefully it didnt cause much damage. It drives me crazy thinking iv lost something in there and spend hours accounting for everything.
Man that is too bad hope it is something relative easy...reminds me of when I was mechanicng back in the 60s, had done probally 30 or 40 engine overhauls, they didn't last as long as they do now anyway I buckled it up and started it and zero oil pressure...shut it off and was wiping my hands off trying to figure out what happened when I noticed half a main bearing laying on the bench..looking around hoping no one saw it pulled the pan installed it and all was okay..those were the good ole days ..NOT!!
That's too bad. I'm sure you'll get it going. Reminds me of my 300zx complete rebuild, 800 head work, all nice and shiny, new bottom end, started right up and drove straight to the beach all excited. Decided to look for a vacuum leak with my buddy. He says i found it! 20 seconds later engine stalls with a loud CLUNK. turns out he found the vacuum line for the windshield washer bottle. Twisted a rod up pretty good.

I have a '94 300zx as my daily driver, fun car. LOL, on your blown engine, that's a really crappy way to break in a new motor! I hope you got your friend a lump of coal for X-mas that year.
