Hard start problem

I have a 1996 F-150 with the 300 six and it turns over really hard. Once it starts it runs fine. I am going to check the timing chain(or belt) and see if it skipped a tooth. My question is what is the best way to re-time this engine? If I can get it starting right it will be my sons first vehicle.

This is written for a V8, but it still works for an I6: Ford Fuel Injection » Setting the timing
