It could be your ebpv closing. Basically bypasses your turbo the the engine works harder for faster warmups. Exhaust sounds like a hair dryer on roids. When you lay on the pedal the turbo will kick back on and have power again...
I would also suggest cleaning you ebpv sensor tube. The sensor is mounted in the front of the hpop. Sensor is connected to a tube that goes down to the passanger exhaust manifold. Simply take the sensor out with a 1in deepwell socket, take the tube out with 16mm wrench(i used a flare nut wrench) at both the sensor bracket and manifold which can be reached thru the inner fender. Use carb cleaner and weed whacker wire to clean all the sut out of the tube. A lead liner from a mig welder works a little better. Be careful cleaning the sensor as people have broke them. Personally i just bought the sensor and tube. Claims of 1-2 mpg gains. Search for more input.
Btw. I get 12-13 mpg with winter fuel. Warmups every day... your doing ok on mileage now you mention winter fuel
Wow I would love to see 12 let alone 13. I pull a 14 foot enclosed trailer everywhere I go and get about 9.5. And fill up at least 3-4 times a week. With the prices right now I think fuel cost has exceeded my mortgage.
You are closer to the real milage most of us get I think but how heavy is you enclosed trailer. I pull 27 foot with lots of toys, motorcycles etc. and get around 10.5 . Mine is
e99 dually 4x4 cc lb. without trailer high 13's to 14 on highway most of the time.
Don't know what part of california your in but mine warms up just blocks from the house. If its cold let it run. Its nice to get oil up to temp and flowing. And your coolant guage should move at some point, when truck is moveing it shouldn't take to long at least the stock gauge. MPG, longer the trip at steady speeds the better the mileage. Around town not so good. Good luck, these aren't high mileage vehicles, but are great for what they can do.
