When I came home with the 05', the wife says "thank you darlin', I like the black. So off I went to get one that I could drive...lol. I then bought the 01' from a friend for 10grand that he thought it had a torque converter problem. Turns out the flex-plate was cracked. I don't think I did bad for a 110,000mi PSD.
VaSheriff, If I had came home with that story, I would have been dead about half way through it...lol.
I got a good laugh out of that, but at the same time, I can't help but remember the issue we had with the hitch on the '05. The metal did start stretching and the paint cracked on top.
The best solution we could find was to find a local hitch place that custom fabricates hitches. Instead of replacing with the original, I had them weld in a 2.5" tube and add extra bracing in front and behind to strengthen it. If it cracks now, I don't want to know what was going on back there...
My buddy has one of those adjustable drop hitches. His truck has some silly lift in it so he has his adjusted all the way to the bottom. His hitch is all tore up and clapped out from doing that. The further away the ball is from the receiver in either direction vertical or horizontally or both the more leverage is put on the receiver.
So if the receiver says max tongue load of #500 and the trailer you are pulling is #500 at the tongue but you have a drop hitch that puts the ball 12" away from the receiver the actual # load on the hitch would be like #600+ because of the leverage.
But thats still not to total problem. What does the bending and torquing on the hitch is going over bumps while driving. Still the further away the ball is from the hitch the more abuse is put on the hitch while driving. The drop hitch is getting slammed back and forth, forward and back, side to side with incredible forces while driving.
