Hey guys, just found this site and was hoping to get some info on my new project, i recently obtained a 1974 F-350 the truck is in pretty good shape with the exception of the grill and the front two fenders which i picked up from my body man for little of nothing. The 70's model fords are new to me, so was hoping you could shed the light on this for me. this F-350 has a 360 in it which is completely worn out, and since I have a freshly rebuilt 302 that I had for another project i decided to place it in this truck. What am i in for with this swap? This truck is 2WD and has a four speed manual Transmission. I know the motor mounts will have to be changed, will the bell housing as well or does it have the same bolt pattern as the 302? What about the flywheel will the flywheel from the 360 bolt up to my 302? I want to gather all my parts before I start so it is just a take one out go right back in with the other job. Is there anything else to expect other than mounts, flywheel and bell housing? They are both two barrell intakes so I am assuming the carb for the 360 will work on the 302, anyway thanks in advance for any info, just looking for what to expect and what needs to be done.
You will need 302 flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, mounts including the frame brackets, accessory brackets(alt, a/c, ps), radiator hoses, exhaust modifications. The 360 carb and radiator will work.
Sorry, I don't want to steal your glory but I'm considering the same swap in a 72 F100. I know the bellhousing and flywheels are differant, but are the frame mounts modifiable or should they just be replaced?
I would sell the 302 and use the money to rebuild the 360 into a 390 which is very easy to do..Give you a lot more power then the 302..But then I am a fan of the FEs..
In a F-100 I would be ok with the 302. I don't think you will be happy putting it in your truck. There is just not enough torque from the 302 to get that mass of metal moving in an acceptable manner.
