Leaf Spring Hangers ...Source?

In my search for 2 new rear leaf spring front hangers I've found they are considered "obsolete" by Ford. My dealer can't get them and I searched a couple of online obsolote parts houses and didn't find them either.

I haven't found them at any of the reproduction places either. I did find them used at one place but they cost as much as Ford quoted for the (unavailable) new ones and I'd rather have new if the price is similar.

What obsolete parts sources have you guys had good luck with? Who has the largest inventory?

Send me an email. In my quest for parts for a 78-79 3 speed on the column with power steering column I have come on 6 obsolete ford warehouses. Between all the 6 I got what I needed and I got it all pretty reasonable. I have a list I wrote out, I can scan it and send it to anyone who wants a copy.....

Do you absolutely need them to be new?? I would guess that it would be cheaper to buy a set from a wrecing yard, have them sandblasted/powder coated and have something that still will do the same job but be nicer (yeah yeah, I know, but it wont be new...)

Jeff's is the place I found them used. The do have them but not new. I'll get them from there (or a local yard) if I can't find them new.

Beavis, I guess I don't have to have them new. The reason I'm biased toward new ones though, is because here where I live, the winter road salt eats parts like that up and I want to get as much life out of my replacement as I can. I figured if they were used they'd already be partly gone. I guess if they came from an arid climate they'd be alright though.

Keep the info coming guys. Good stuff and thanks!

Well I have an option though not cheap. A.I.M. industries offers a 2" drop front hanger. It appears to have two sets of spring mounting holes, one stock one for the drop. They are very heavy duty.

I just checked out A.I.M.'s web site. There's a lot of good stuff on there and they also list lifted hangers but you're right about them being pricey.

I guess with those lifted hangers, I could use them and my stock springs instead of replacing my springs when I add my 4" suspension lift. (or is that not what they do).

Expensive but something to consider. Thanks.

Ken-

You will find that almost everything on our trucks are obsolete parts. The only way they aren't obsolete is if some newer vehicle uses the same part. Generally the manufacturers cary parts for vehicles up to 10 years but that can be hit and miss when "# estimates" on part runs aren't correct. Our trucks are ~25 years old and the vehicles that continued to use some of the same parts are over 10 years old now. The parts stores carry stuff that sells in quantity for maybe 15-20 years. Wear parts are the most common. Things like spring hangers that were origianlly "dealer items only" for accident repair were big $$$. They are commonly only available as salvage yard items after about 5-10 years.

Trivia question:

What part is the same part from 1961 - 2003 and can be found on all automatic transmission Super Duties, Rangers, F100s and F-150s?

...Would that be the gear shift ****?

Not only are our trucks "obsolete" but so are some of the owners.

Last year I ordered from the Ford dealer rear spring hangers for the old 1997 F350 they are the same part but different number. That's is what I put on my 79. Those trucks have very many parts that can be used on the older ford trucks.

Is it the brake pedal pad? I just saw some commercial for a 2003 mountaineer ( I think that's what it was) and the brake pedal pad looked the same as my '78.
