quicky maf conversion question...

im in the process of getting all the stuff hammered out for my future maf conversion. and have a really dumb question

1993 f150 flare side 351w with the aod-e

the plan is MAF conversion and using a Tweecer to play with the new computer.

as i understand it i'll need a stand alone controller for the transmission, or at least i haven't found a suitable mustang computer that will run the electric trans...help? Im thinking B&M Simple Shift Electronic Overdrive Transmission Control for Ford AODE

but the question i have is... what about my transfer-case? its electronic shift also! is the transfer case ECU controlled? or does it run off relays and is NOT tied to the ECU? will i have to swap out for a completely manual t-case? or could i make it run off relays if i had to?

thanks.

no idea about the tcase, I would ditch the auto effects of it in any case...just go push button or stick mode.

As for the B&M thing...I am worried....I would stick with the BEControls.com OptiSHift...they have been doing this much much longer, the first guys to do it.

anything B&M scares me, as a transmission guy, I have learned to stay away from many of their products for Fords.

I was not aware Ford put the AODE/4R70W behind the 5.8L engine. My impression is you should have an E4OD behind that 5.8L of yours. What is the transmission code on the door jamb. As another check, how many transmission pan bolts does yours have?

Why not go with a MAF computer from a auto equipped truck? That would eliminate purchasing another box to control the transmission.

I would just look for a truck with a 5.0 with maf, the same tranny, i'm not sure about the transfer case either but if you can find one that is a 4x4 there would be no worries.

Yeah you have an E4OD not the 4R70w(aka AODE), but in any case using a Ford engine/trans control module(EEC) would be the tidier way to go and vastly simplify the conversion, and you can use a 5.0 or 5.8 EEC, even if you don't tune it they will both run a stock or lightly modified 5.8 no problem.

right, not sure about the 4R vs the E4...they should have offered the 4R IMO...better trans!

this is what i mean about the t-case. it has push buttons on the dash one button for 4x4 and the second button for 4low. the 4x4 button also puts me back into 2 wheel when i push i again. this is where the question comes from... do the buttons tell the ecu to shift the t-case? or do they run separate from the ecu relays, which shift the t-case?

[quote]What is the transmission code on the door jamb. As another check, how many transmission pan bolts does yours have?[/qoute]

as far as my transmission... there is no door sticker so crawled under the truck, in the rain - i HATE washington!- what i find is this the pan has 20 bolts. and that my door sticker is long gone

so i suppose i have the E4OD trans...

i've been reading that a mustang computer will do me better in the long run. seems that the truck computers lightning or not where speed density 93-95 the few maf obd1 trucks had crappy computers that require a complete custom harness. a mustang computer will be easier to wire and has more aftermarket support anyway

as eventually ill be doing cam, intake, heads, blah blah blah all built up so at the end of the road i can do turbos. that's the reason im gonna go Tweecer for the tuner

if i can find a mustang computer that will run the E4OD then ill be set for now... i was doing all the research for the aode so back to the interwebs! unless somebody would be nice enough just to tell me.

I did overlook that part of your first post. The electric 4x4 system is a separate function from the PCM control of the engine/transmission. There is another black box to control that function. It is located behind the passenger side kick panel.

If you have 20 bolts it should be an E4OD just as we suspected. For future reference:

YOUR RIGHT...i guess it does toggle...at any rate, I think a simple relay fix up could solve it if the ECU does the job. I am going to guess there is a relay controler for this behind the dash.
